Baby care
Parenthood can be an incredible (and stressful!) ride.
To calm the tumultuous turbulence that can be taking care of an infant,
it is important that caregivers learn the basics of baby care before
they bring a newborn home. Learning the essentials of infant sleeping
habits and feeding techniques, along with the basics of baby safety
and development, will help both new and old parents weather the storm.
There are a multitude of baby care and childhood development books
and internet sites on the market, all of which offer advice on the most
effective or safe way to care for an infant. Plus, parents will be bombarded
by information from formal and informal sources from the time they announce
their pregnancy. Nurses and doctors may offer sound medical advice,
while other parents and neighbors give tried and true guidance on behavioral
techniques and cultural counsel.
While navigating this information overload, parents and caregivers
alike should remember that baby care is very much about intuition. Parents,
although digesting information from multiple sources, will learn how
to effectively react to and care for their newborns in ways few others
can. Confidence in one’s abilities can go a long way in safely
and carefully meeting the needs of one’s newborn.
